Laptop and Hard Disk Query

First query is by MR :

i’m planning to buy a laptop with the following specs
core 2 duo (dual core will do)
120 gig
1 or 2gig ram
webcam
bluetooth
dvd writer
tv out
firewire
good video and audio card
with vista home basic or premium )
right now, i’m considering dell inspiron 1420 dual core and 1525 celeron 540 because of their same prices, i’m a little bit troubled because they have different processors. i want a laptop that i can use for years. which do you think is better or if you can prefer something better in the same price range ($600-$700)? (i’ll be using it for video editing and multimedia stuffs)

I would suggest you go for Dell Inspiron 1520 as it a Value For Money laptop and offers the same features at a better price than Dell Inspiron 1525. Dual Core processors are slowly being phased out, so I would advise you to not go for them. Choose the cheapest Core2Duo processor which will give you much better performance and also consume less power and hence give you better battery backup.

The only problem I see with choosing Dell Inspiron 1520 is that, you might not get Windows Vista pre-installed on it. You can always call the Dell representatives and ask them if it is possible for them to bundle it. Else you will need to buy it separately which will jack up the costs. With Inspiron 1525 you get to choose between various versions of Vista which is the only advantage it has over Inspiron 1520.

You can also look at Dell Inspiron 1420 is you will be carrying the laptop around a lot as it will less heavier. But then having a small screen limits your movie watching experience. So it is basically a trade-off between the three versions of the Dell Inspiron series.

The second query is by jason :

I have a problem in my PC when I try to open my computer, a message appear “the data must be corrupt or a has been erased you can attempt to repair this if you install the setup-cd rom”

You have not explained the problem in detail. But as far as I can make out, the problem seems to be with your hard disk or a faulty windows installation. Did you try to install the operating system again to see if the problem occurs again?

If it does, then it seems that your hard disk is at fault and either has bad sectors or some internal problem. Else if the problem goes after re-installation of the OS, then you had a corrupted OS.

This could also be a problem with the bootloader but only if it happened after you tinkered with it.

Try some these solutions and get back if you still have a problem.

I have just picked up a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. While the performance of the machine good, I find the monitor is too glossy and reflective. This is too straining on the eyes. How can I reduce the glare. Is there any anti-glare film available. Please help.

Yes I think anti-glare films are available in the market.
But you might have to do a bit of hunting in the market to find one.

Have something to say?
